Mailgun alternative
Sendpository vs Mailgun
A Mailgun alternative for developers who want to send and receive email through one API - with Mailgun's own published pricing worked out at the volumes people actually send, and the other Mailgun competitors worth a look.
In short
Mailgun is a mature email platform with sending, receiving and validation APIs; Sendpository is a smaller, simpler API covering sending and receiving. Choose Sendpository for less to configure; choose Mailgun for email validation and its broader feature set. Sendpository's free plan is larger: 6,000 emails a month (up to 200 a day), against Mailgun's 100 a day.Side by side
| Sendpository | Mailgun | |
|---|---|---|
| Free tier | 6,000 emails a month (up to 200 a day), free forever | Free: 100 emails a day, one sending domain. Basic starts at $15 a month for 10,000 emails. |
| Receiving email | Inbound addresses on your own domain, delivered to your inbox, API and an email.received webhook - with an SPF, DKIM and DMARC verdict on every message. | Inbound routes forward or post incoming mail. |
| Domain signing | A 2048-bit DKIM key generated per domain, signed as your own domain so it passes strict DMARC alignment. | Published as DNS records on domain setup, with a choice of key length, and dedicated IPs available as an add-on for senders who want their own reputation. |
| Developer tooling | REST API, a typed Node.js/TypeScript SDK with no dependencies, idempotency keys, scheduled sends, signed webhooks and searchable delivery logs. | REST API and SMTP, SDKs across the common languages, Routes for handling inbound mail, and an Events API for querying what happened. Address validation and inbox-placement testing are sold as their own products alongside it. |

What Mailgun costs at real volumes
A headline price per month means little until you put your own volume against it. These are Mailgun’s own published figures, worked through at three common monthly volumes. Sendpository’s side is on the pricing page, read from the same live plans this page reads.
| Emails a month | Mailgun, as published |
|---|---|

Deliverability
Mailgun sells deliverability as a product line of its own, with address validation, dedicated IPs and inbox-placement tooling. Sendpository keeps the parts that every sender needs - domain-aligned 2048-bit DKIM, automatic suppression on hard bounce and complaint, and a full delivery log - in the base product rather than as add-ons.
Choose Mailgun if
Teams that also need email address validation, dedicated IPs and a wide set of platform features from one vendor.
Choose Sendpository if
Developers who want the sending and receiving they need without a large console to learn. Sendpository's free plan is larger: 6,000 emails a month (up to 200 a day), against Mailgun's 100 a day.
Switching from Mailgun
Verify your sending domain, create an API key, and replace your Mailgun send call with a POST to /v1/emails carrying from, to, subject and html. Update your webhook handler for Sendpository’s event names. The quickstart takes about ten minutes, and the Mailgun migration guide maps every field, header, webhook event and error.
curl https://api.sendpository.com/v1/emails \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SENDPOSITORY_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"from": "you@yourdomain.com",
"to": "customer@example.com",
"subject": "Your receipt",
"html": "<p>Thanks for your order.</p>"
}'Other Mailgun alternatives worth shortlisting
Sendpository is not the only answer, and a comparison that pretends otherwise is an advertisement. If the fit above is wrong, these are the providers most people weigh against Mailgun - each one better than us at something.
| Provider | Why it makes the shortlist |
|---|---|
| Postmark | If transactional reliability matters more than the breadth of the platform. |
| Resend | A smaller API surface, built around React Email. |
| Amazon SES | Lowest cost per email at high volume, on AWS infrastructure you wire up yourself. |
All five, with free tiers side by side, are on the email API alternatives page, and Resend vs SendGrid vs Postmark sends the same email through each.
Questions
Does Sendpository have inbound routing like Mailgun?
Yes. Add an address or a catch-all on your domain; every message is stored, delivered to an email.received webhook and readable through the API, with an SPF, DKIM and DMARC verdict.
Does Sendpository validate email addresses?
Not as a separate API. It suppresses addresses automatically after a hard bounce or spam complaint, so you never send to them twice.
